The Veritas RSIII isn't exactly the most practical car in the world, but a new report is indicating the company is developing a plug-in hybrid variant.
According to Translogic, the eco-friendly roadster will feature a 143 PS (105 kW / 141 hp) electric motor and a BMW-sourced 5.0-liter V10 engine that develops 507 PS (373 kW / 500 hp) and 520 Nm (383 lb-ft) of torque. This will give the car a combined output of 650 PS (478 kW / 641 hp) which will enable the 2,821 pound (1,280 kg) RSIII to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.1 seconds and hit a top speed of 205 km/h (127 mph).
More importantly, car's lithium-ion battery will allow the plug-in hybrid to travel up to 50 km (31 miles) on electricity alone. Furthermore, since the electric motor powers the front wheels, the RSIII has a de facto all-wheel drive system which should ensure safe and predictable handling.
No word on when the hybrid will be launched, but a coupe is slated for this summer and an EV variant is planned for 2013.
