The Mercedes A-Class can be called a lot of things, but stylish isn't one of them. However, that could change as this alleged leaked sketch reveals a redesigned hatchback worthy of the tri-pointed star.
Designed to battle the Audi A1, the entry-level model will have an aggressive front fascia with a single bar grille and sweptback headlights. Other highlights include a panoramic sunroof, a dynamic greenhouse and a tailgate-mounted spoiler.
Under the hood, power will likely be provided by a variety of Renault-sourced engines. Nothing is official, but choices are slated to include a 1.2-, 1.4- and 1.8-liter petrol as well as a 1.6-liter diesel. More interestingly, rumors have suggested Mercedes could offer an AMG variant with a turbocharged 2.0-liter petrol that develops 320 hp (239 kW / 324 PS). Additionally, the high-performance model would reportedly feature all-wheel drive and a six-speed double-clutch transmission.
The 2012 Mercedes A-Class is scheduled to debut at Auto Shanghai, so expect more information to be released next month.
