Bang & Olufsen has earlier created bespoke sound systems for Aston MartinAudi and Mercedes-Benz. In November 2010, the renowned house announced its partnership with German car manufacturer, BMW, and the latest upshot of the collaboration is the Bang & Olufsen High-End Surround Sound System for the all-new BMW 6 Series Coupé. It’s the very first in-car sound system developed by the audio house for BMW. The new sound system flaunts 16 active loudspeakers driven by 1,200 watts of power. All seven tweeters come paired with a mid-range loudspeaker to deliver a uniform loudspeaker setup.
Two powerful subwoofers under the front seats are directly mounted to the body of the car. The very BMW-patented design gets rid of the vibrations from the subwoofers to deliver amazing sound quality. The new sound system also boasts Dynamic Road Noise Compensation, which adjusts the sound according to the outside conditions. The system offers two modes – the Studio Mode and the Expanded Mode. The space between the grille and frame features small LEDs that create a soothing ambiance inside the cabin when the system is activated.
After the system is activated, a loudspeaker cover in the center of the dashboard lifts up discreetly to reveal the large acoustic lens and the embedded LED lights turn on at the same time. The patented Acoustic Lens Technology distributes sound horizontally with 180-degrees of dispersion to enrich the passengers with an amazing acoustic experience.
Another highlight is the “Perl Glanz” (Pearl Gloss) color and machine-drilled holes that appear in perfect alignment from any angle. Most of the grills comes laser engraved with the Bang & Olufsen name.
The new Bang & Olufsen High-End Surround Sound System for the all new BMW 6 Series Coupé will arrive at dealer showrooms in fall 2011.
