Fact: US muscle cars don't work over here. But you will want to throw that fact away because Chevy has unveiled the Camaro Convertible at the LA Motor Show, and it's rather delectable.

The iconic Chevy muscle car loses its head as it makes its debut near the Hollywood hills, but apparently, will lose none of the 'driving fun' you get in the coupe.

In fact, Chevrolet reckons it has better torsional stiffness than a BMW 3 Series convertible, and as reckoning goes, that's a big one.

Lots of strategic reinforcements have been bolted on to stop it from wobbling your stomach into submission, including a 'tower-to-tower', front and rear underbody and transmission braces. Along with a few other gubbins, Chevy reckons this allows the Camaro to be as much of a bender as the Beemer.

The power hood retracts in about 20 seconds, and you're then transported to a world of V8 noise and follicular damage. The Camaro convertible gets the same 6.2-litre 426bhp V8 like the coup' complete with 420lb ft of torque, which is plentiful.

We'll spare judgement on its ride and handling abilities when we get our greedy, grubby paws on it, but for now, savour those pics and imagine you're cruising through the rain-sodden back-roads of Hertfordshire, wind in your woolly hat and Radio 4 gently thrumming in the background.
